ELEVATOR PIT INJECTION CASE STUDY
Project: Vertical Club Elevator Pit Injection
Location: New York, New York
GC: Structure Tone, Incorporated
Mueser Ruttedge, Consulting Engineers (NY, NY) informed Jean’s Waterproofing, Incorporated (JWI) of the Vertical Club’s water infiltration problems. Vertical Club, an existing Manhattan athletic / office building was being renovated by a general contractor, Structure Tone, Inc. (NY, NY). Structure Tone had placed new concrete against existing concrete and ledge in the early stages of the installation of an elevator. Water migrating through the ledge fissures and concrete interface was collecting at the bottom of the elevator pit, creating a safety hazard for the elevator installer.
JWI developed and proposed a plan to Structure Tone, which included the use of water-swelling, acrylate-ester resin for sealing joints and cracks. JWI’s plan involved injecting all ledge / concrete bond lines and construction joints in the elevator pit. JWI mobilized to the site and drilled selective injection port locations. After all preparation was completed, JWI injected the water-soluble acrylic resin into the injection port locations. After all preparation was completed, JWI injected the water soluble acrylic resin into the injection ports. At the completion of this project, JWI had eliminated all water leakage into the elevator pit area thus allowing Structure Tone, Inc. to continue.
